  • Gunung Brinchang / Mount Brinchang

Standing at 2031m, Gunung Brinchang has a telecommunication tower at its peak and is the highest point accessible by road on the Peninsular. It is 7km from the base of the turn off from the road into Sungai Palas tea estate to the peak and is a steep uphill climb. Best not to make it in the afternoon as it can get a little hot during the climb. The views can be beautiful but sheets of mist float by and this can linger for quite some time....so be prepared to wait for a while to catch the view.

    Gunung Irau / Mount Irau
Standing tall at 2110m(6330ft), Mount Irau is the G9 (9th highest peak) in Peninsula Malaysia & the 15th in Malaysia. Known for its mossy forest & "Lord of the rings" look alike, people would climb and hike all the way to see this with their own eyes. Part of a local movie "Puteri Gunung Ledang" was also filmed here.

The mossy forest has a large variety of moss & flora & birds. The unique formation of trees and branches reminds me of "TreeBeard" in the LOTR. We drove through the winding roads across the Boh Tea plantation to the peak of Mount Brinchang (6666m) and camp over night. We hiked into the mossy forest early in the next morning.

One would gain the experience of going through the branches, soggy grounds, rocks, climbing slope as steep as 70 degrees which leads to the twin peaks of Mount Irau. The first peak is known as "false peak" and another hour of hiking will bring you to the real peak of Mount Irau.

At the peak of Mount Irau, there is a "boundary stone" engraved with "Pahang" on one side and "Perak" on the other side.

Although we were behind schedule of 4 hours extended to 5 hours due to a large group and also some serious photographers taking photos, it was a great trip.
We were awed with the scenery at the peak looking at the Titiwangsa main range.
The return trip merely took us about 3 hours back to Mount Brinchang.
